Singapore Marks Largest Participation at MIPCOM 2007

Singapore will lead its biggest-ever delegation to MIPCOM this month, with a record 24 companies offering nearly 100 programmes — the highest to date — for sale and distribution.

This is the seventh year that Singapore is participating in MIPCOM, one of the world’s largest audiovisual and digital content markets.

Of the titles being offered, 57 projects will be making their market debut at the event in Cannes, France, to be held from 8-12 October.

One highlight is the 2D animated series Tales Alive, adapted from nine original children’s storybooks by Singapore writers. Produced by Peach Blossom Media, it is one of the first print-to-screen projects initiated by the Media Development Authority of Singapore (MDA) to encourage the multi-purposing of content.

Other animation content, which makes up half of the programme lineup, includes new titles like Scrawl Studios’ Clang Invasion, a fast-paced sci-fi comedy featuring alien robots and Pixelworx’s Free Radicalz, a heartwarming series about an aspiring teenage band.

At the same time, reflecting Singapore’s traditional strengths in factual programming, a total of 27 documentaries and 23 lifestyle shows will be showcased. Among them is Taming the Savage: Prowess, Plunder and Butchery of the Far East Pirates, which is being co-produced by Singapore’s Oak3 Films with Korea’s Channel Q. This is the first project under the Co-production Agreement signed between MDA and the Korean Broadcasting Commission in June this year.
